Separate Lubbock Power and Light from Lubbock City Hall and do it by May.
That was the message Tuesday as Lubbock City Councilman Gary Boren addressed members of the newly appointed LP&L task force. The task force is charged with studying ways to separate LP&L's money from other city funds.

Find out about the eight members of the LP&L Task Force formed to consider the options available in creating a freestanding corporation for the municipal-owned electric company.
Last month Boren announced the idea to get LP&L back to its original mission of providing lower electric rates and helping to lower taxes. Boren wants to make LP&L a freestanding corporation and switch financial control from the city manager to a new board of directors. Boren says timing is critical and he would like to see a public vote to change city charter by the May 2004 elections.
