Join UMC in support of the Diabetes Walk 2011

More than half of UMC's patients suffer from symptoms of diabetes. You can help raise awareness of symptoms and support for patients through Diabetes Walk 2011 on Saturday at McKenzie Park.

"Diabetes is growing more prevalent in our community, and it often doesn't get the attention less common diseases receive," said Dr. Mike Ragain, UMC chief medical officer. "UMC is proud of its support of the Diabetes Walk and the benefit it has for local patients."

Proceeds from the Diabetes Walk will benefit the American Diabetes Association. Last year UMC walking teams raised more than $9,000.

About 2 million people in the United States will be diagnosed with diabetes in 2011, according to the ADA. More than 25 million children and adults have diabetes, but another 80 million are considered to have prediabetes.

The walk is Saturday, September 17th, on the Northeast side of McKenzie Park-near the baseball fields.  Registration begins at 8:00 in the morning, and the walk starts at 9:00
