Authorities are searching for a Texas Tech student who has been missing since August. Eric Scheller's car showed up at a Santa Monica tow yard earlier this month.
Lubbock police report that the 24-year-old was last seen by his roommates in August and his family has not heard from him since June. As far as they knew he was attending class at Tech and had been for four years.
The family filed a missing person's report September 14th after receiving a letter from the tow company. Turns out, Eric Scheller's car, a red Cavalier, was towed from the 400 block of Raymond Avenue in Santa Monica for having an expired registration, but Scheller never showed up to claim the vehicle.
"That blew our minds right there," said Eric Scheller's mother, Cheri Cisneros.
Officers from the Santa Monica Police Department are assisting Lubbock Police with the investigation. Authorities believe Scheller could be in Santa Monica.
"There were some indications he had been living in his car before it was towed," said Lubbock Police Department, Sergeant Jonathan Stewart.
Cisneros says she does not believe her son knew anyone in California and he would never leave without telling her.
"I worry that something happened to him, maybe somebody made him go. I don't know," said Cisneros.
The last people to see Scheller were his roommates and they say he was having financial trouble, according to Cisneros.
"His roommates that he was living with left for summer break. When they returned they found he was not at the residence," said Stewart.
The only items Scheller took with him were his handgun, laptop and Playstation, according to Cisneros.
"His clothes and stuff were at the house, so that threw me off too. Why would he leave without that?" said Cisneros.
With a puzzling disappearance, Schellers mother worries. Right now she is reaching out to the public through Facebook, while the Santa Monica Police hand out flyers.
Scheller is a graduate from Abilene High School.
