Food For Thought: Health inspectors surprise local schools

Posted: Updated:

Health inspectors surprised more than a dozen schools this week to make sure our local cafeterias are being kept clean. Most of the schools inspected this week came out with no critical violations, but one did make our low performer list.

Frenship Northridge at 6302 11th Place had one critical violation. Inspectors observed a small amount of mildew growth in the ice machine. It has since been washed, rinsed, and sanitized. Thursday we called the health department and they said the violation was corrected at the time of the inspection.

"Although we do not condone this situation," Frenship ISD said in statement, "please know that this particular device does not serve our students nor do students come into contact with this device. The situation has been resolved and we will be proactive in making sure it does not happen again."

14 other schools aced their health inspection tests with zero critical violations:

  • Atkins Middle School
  • Bayless Elementary School
  • Brown Elementary School
  • Cavazos Middle School
  • Dupre Elementary School
  • Jackson Elementary School
  • Lubbock Cooper North Elementary School
  • Lubbock Cooper West Elementary School
  • Lubbock High School
  • Mackenzie Middle School
  • Mathews #011
  • Oakridge Elementary School
  • Stewart Elementary School
  • Wilson, Smylie Middle School
