DPS investigates deadly accident Sunday morning

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Late Sunday night DPS released the names of two victims in a fiery fatal crash Sunday morning in Lubbock County.

DPS says Jesse Valdez, 28, of Lubbock was driving his pickup along the 5000 block of Farm to Market Road 2641.  They say his pickup drifted into the lane of oncoming travel and then clear off the roadway to hit a parked semi.  The truck burst into flames and both Valdez and his passenger, Veronica Hernandez, 31, of Lubbock were killed.

DPS says the semi was legally parked at least five feet off the side of the road.  DPS Senior Corporal John Gonzalez says the investigation continues into why the pickup crashed.
