LUBBOCK,TX (KCBD) -
This morning Mr. Rick Jackson, President of the Tournament of Roses Association, will extend the official invitation to the All-Lubbock Band to perform in the 2012 Tournament of Roses Parade. A volunteer with the Tournament of Roses for more than 30 years, Jackson leads the organization that manages both the Tournament of Roses Parade and the Rose Bowl game. Mr. Jackson selected "Just Imagine" as the theme for the 123rd Rose Parade.
A combined band comprised of approximately 500 students from Coronado, Estacado, Lubbock and Monterey High Schools will perform in the nationally televised parade. The All-Lubbock Band will be the largest band performing in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, on January 2, and they will be the only band from Texas. Drum majors from the four high schools will attend the media event and one band student will model the uniform which will be worn by the All-Lubbock Band.
This will be the first time an LISD band has performed in the prestigious Tournament of Roses parade. The committee leading the fundraising efforts for the band students is chaired by former LISD administrator Dr. Fred Hardin. Other members of the fundraising committee are: Mr. Keith Bearden, former director of the Texas Tech "Goin'Band from Raiderland," former LISD superintendent Wayne Havens and former LISD fine arts director C. Doyle Gammill. Additional information about the parade is available just clickhere.
