New hand-crafted fair ride is actually a blast from the past

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

There are plenty of new rides at the Panhandle South Plains Fair this year, but one crowd favorite is a blast from the past.

It's called the Zierer Wave Swinger and no one looking would guess that it's 37 years old. The Wave Swinger is returning to Lubbock after receiving a full makeover, adding bright new colors and fiberglass seats, replacing the old woven baskets.

The entire ride was built by hand, including the unique artwork. The rotating canopy moves with a wave-like motion that sets the ride apart from other swings. Riders can fly through the air and get a spectacular view of the fairground.

The Wave Swinger carries up to 48 people and lights up 2,500 bulbs.
