In three and a half years, a comprehensive sex education program sponsored by the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center has educated more than 2,200 area teens who come with a parent to get answers about the birds and the bees and much more. The program is called "Teen Straight Talk," and another session is set for this Saturday.
Dr. Linda Brice said, "Teen Straight Talk is comprehensive sex education program for the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, anybody that works with kids 10 to 18. We also teach parents and kids on how to deal with teen pressures, peer pressures, bullying, body image problems, depression, and suicide. Because it's a free program, we want to make sure people come. We're offering free child care for anybody that's under age 10. We're going to feed them lunch."
Each teen will leave with a free book called "Start Talking"...or "What's Happening to My Body".
Teen Straight Talk is this Saturday from noon to 4:30 at TTUHSC. The doors will open an hour earlier at 11:00, and they will provide free STD testing to teens or adults.
