Three men are behind bars Tuesday after a failed attempt to steal a man's pickup truck from a parking lot located at 21st Street and Indiana Ave.

Police say the incident occurred shortly before midnight Monday when George Henderson, Marcus Denson, and Shawn West made an attempt to steal a Dodge Dakota at gunpoint in the Covenant Hospital parking lot. The victim managed to flee from the scene and ran to the emergency room of Covenant where he called LPD.

Lubbock Police located the suspects in the 2100 block of Ave. T. Henderson and Denson were located at a house and taken into custody. The third suspect, Shawn West, took off on foot and was located in a doghouse and found by the K-9 unit. He was taken and released from UMC after being treated for dog bites.

The truck theft was unsuccessful, police say, because none of the men knew how to drive a standard shift transmission.

All three men are at the LPD Detention Center. Two handguns were recovered along with stolen property from the victim.
