LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
Most people come to the fair to have fun. Damian and Pomasa Morales have come back to remember the day they fell in love.
It was 1965. The Panhandle South Plains Fair was just starting to become popular. Damian was 17. Pomasa was 18. Damian was about to move north to find a job in a cotton gin. He knew if he moved, he would never see Pomasa again.
There was only one way to keep her. Damian popped the question on the Ferris wheel.
"I told her that I wanted her to marry me. She said what are you talking about. I said if you really love me, you'll marry me," Damian said.
The next Saturday they were hitched. Now, 46 years later, the couple is back at the fair to remember the day they fell in love.
"Every year it's different. There's new games, new people - and I started to notice we're getting old," Damian said.
The couple says laughing and holding hands together is what keeps their marriage alive.
The couple plans to remarry on their 50th anniversary at the place where their love started - right here at the South Plains fair.
