Plainview is officially in the peanut business.
On Tuesday, the Peanut Corporation of America announced it would bring its processing plant to Plainview. Plainview beat out Seminole for the plant. It will be housed in the former Jimmy Dean sausage plant off north I-27, starting next June or July.
The city, county and Hale County Industrial Foundation are each paying the company $13,000 every year over the next 10 years as an incentive. The Peanut Corporation of America will invest $1,000,000 to bring the company to Plainview and will start with 40 employees. It will eventually hire up to 100 over the next three years.
NewsChannel 11 spoke with Industrial Foundation's Executive Director Grady Elder who said the city is excited that the plant is coming and says it will further economic development in the region.
