LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Two men are still in the hospital after a chase with Lubbock County sheriffs ended in a deadly crash on Thursday.

The crash claimed the life of Joseph Chance, 44, who was a passenger in the back seat.

The driver, Felipe Rodriquez, 28, is still in critical condition.

One passenger, Jonathan Trevino, 23, has been released from hospital, while the other, Raymond Rodriguez, 45, is in satisfactory condition.

It is not known if any of the men were wearing seatbelts.

The wreck occurred at I-27 and 82nd Street Thursday afternoon.

One of the people in the car admitted to police that they had been drinking. Police found drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Early reports said that two of the people in the vehicle were ejected when the car hit a telephone pole and then a residence.

Officers say they began chasing the car because it had an expired tag and registration.
