Hockey legend Gordie HoweIt's not every day a sports legend comes through West Texas, but hockey hall of famer Gordie Howe was in town Friday night to cheer on the Tahoka Bulldogs. As for why the four-time Stanley Cup champion is currently in the Lubbock area?
"I'm lost," said the 83-year old. "No, my daughter lives in West Texas...so I've got a chance to get down and see the kids."
"Most of my traveling is to visit the family; they'll get used to me."
Other than visiting family on the South Plains, "Mr. Hockey" is also taking in a sport he didn't get to play much in his youth: football.
"I don't understand what's going on some times, but [Tahoka has] some pretty big boys out there. If you can't run fast enough to hit him you're in trouble," Howe said Thursday.
Howe said he will be in the area for the next three weeks, but the Hub City wouldn't mind the sports legend staying as long as he'd like.
