Lubbock Economic Index declines in August

Prices are up and construction is down as the Lubbock Economic Index declined in August, dropping for the first time in five months.

The index is down .97 percent from July and down 2.2 percent from August 2010.

After a high building permit total in July, the August permit total was down by over 60 percent compared to August of last year.

Consumer prices are up 2.8 percent from last year, with grocery prices up 3.2 percent in August, up from 2.6 percent in July.
