Official: Texas Tech did not push for TCU invitation

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A well-placed source at Texas Tech University tells KCBD NewsChannel 11 that Texas Tech did not push for TCU's invitation to the Big 12. The Big 12 Board of Directors voted unanimously to extend an invitation to TCU, as the move to add them to the Big 12 already had enough majority votes to pass.

"Well that was the vote of the conference, and so at 6:30 a.m. we had a conference call meeting to vote and to authorize the commissioner to approach TCU and invite them into the conference," Tech President Guy Bailey said.

This new addition comes on the heels of Texas A & M's exit. "We will all miss A&M. It was a great rivalry there, so it's hard to talk about one team replacing another. But I think TCU will help stabilize the conference," President Bailey continued.

President Bailey said there are many complex factors that go into selecting teams for the Big 12.

"You have to consider who's mobile and who's mobile now, which teams have affiliates, and commitments to conferences. So there are a lot of factors at work. Your media partners have a role to play as well, so all of these factors come together. It's not really a simple choice of a school," President Bailey said.

Coming up tonight at 6 well have reaction from Tech students and more from President Bailey on the addition of TCU to the Big 12.
