SLATON, TX (KCBD) -

Slaton ISD baseball coach Randy Gattis has resigned, and the Slaton school district confirms that he was under review for allegations of sending an inappropriate text message. Sources say the message was to a Sophomore student.

Superintendent, Jim Taliaferro said, "As soon as we had evidence, the resignation came.  And that's the way it needs to work."

Taliaferro also said, "We're a small town and people trust us with their kids. We're just not going to have it."

Gattis went to Slaton in the summer of 2010, after having been a Lubbock Christian High School coach and a Texas Tech baseball player.  While coaching for Lubbock Christian, he took the team to district championships twice.

Gattis has not yet returned calls to KCBD NewsChannel 11.  At this time, the Slaton ISD is not saying that Gattis is under criminal investigation, but rather he was the subject of an internal review.  The Slaton Police Chief tells us that so far his department is not involved.

Raul Castro's departure from the presidency is a symbolically charged moment for a country that has been under the absolute rule of one family since the Cuban revolution of the 1950s.
