The new Congressional Redistricting Map is one step closer to taking effect.
The 2003 Legislature worked on the plan in two special sessions that saw some Democratic Lawmakers leave the state. They finally adopted the GOP supported map in October. Friday afternoon, the Justice Department gave it the green light, ruling the map did not violate the Voting Rights Act.
Now the only obstacle remaining is a Federal Court case in Austin. Judges in that case will hear closing arguments next Tuesday.
