Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center sent a notice of termination to Dr. Thomas Butler on Friday.
The letter outlines the charges, and the basis for his dismissal which include:
- The neglect of professional responsibilities.
- Moral turpitude adversely affecting the performance of duties or the meeting of responsibilities to the school, or to students or associates.
- Unprofessional conduct adversely affecting the performance of duties or the meeting of responsibilities to the school, or to students or associates.
According to University officials, Dr. Butler has 20-days now to petition for a hearing. The case would then be reviewed by a peer group composed of faculty members within the school of medicine. But until that time, Dr. Butler will remain on administrative leave with pay.
Of the 69 federal charges against him, a jury found him guilty on 47 counts
A judge has yet to decide his punishment. That is expected some time in February.
