LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
Lubbock's unemployment rate for September was 6.5% according to
statistics released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission. That's down compared to August at 6.6% and
up compared to September of 2010 at 6.1%. However, while the rate is up over the last year, that doesn't tell the
whole story.
The size of Lubbock's workforce increased from 147,400 in
September 2010 to 150,100 in September 2011. The number of people with a job also went up during that same time
period from 138,400 to 140,300.
Lubbock was tied with the College Station-Bryan area for 4th best
unemployment rate in Texas. The
statewide rate was 8.4% unadjusted or 8.5% seasonally adjusted, according to
the numbers released by TWC.
