Floyd County considers settlement after animal seizure

Posted: Updated:
FLOYD COUNTY (KCBD) -

Did Floyd County do something wrong by seizing more than 200 dogs from the Alpha Tex Kennels near Lockney last month?  Floyd County Commissioner Nathan Johnson is quoted by the Plainview Daily Herald as saying the County Attorney and the County Judge want to settle out-of-court with Alpha Tex for $200,000.

Johnson, by the way, says he's opposed to the idea.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 video from the day of the seizure depicts dirty conditions.  Alpha Tex co-owner Sandra Smith told KCBD NewsChannel 11 that there were temporary problems and that the Floyd County Sheriff "over reacted."  Members of the Humane Society disagree and say that conditions at Alpha Tex were neglect.
