Family recovering from aftermath of Central Lubbock fire

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Lubbock family is trying to cope with the aftermath of an apartment fire last week in the 3400 block of Nashville Avenue.  The specific cause is unknown but according to the Fire Marshal's office, it started on the back porch area and caused an estimated $20,000 damage.

Dawn Knight says she was watching TV with her son and her son's girlfriend when the fire started.

"Jessica said the bathroom is glowing," Knight said.  "And I said 'oh my gosh, what?' My son opened the back door and the whole back door was on fire.  The whole back side of the house was on fire.  My son and the neighbor got it put out or else it probably would have burned before the fire department got here."

Knight is staying with friends.  A fund has been set up in the name of Knight's mother, Brittany Addison, at Lone Star Bank with locations in Lubbock and Brownfield.
