If you choose to welcome in the new year with a few drinks, local authorities advise you do it responsibly. That means don't drink and drive.
This year there have been 29 traffic fatalities in Lubbock. Beginning Wednesday night, patrols are being increased in an effort to cut down on highway deaths and injuries. It's called Operation Holiday. Lubbock Police and DPS Troopers will be on the lookout for speeders, seat belt violators, reckless drivers and especially drunk drivers.
