The Lubbock Police Department is urging drivers to use precaution when locking up their cars at night. The warning comes after a string of car robberies this month.
Wednesday morning, at least two juveniles were caught breaking into a Lincoln in the 5200 block of 15th street. A witness called police who chased the juveniles to the 5300 block of 13th street where they were arrested. Lubbock Police Sergeant Keith Woodard says there are ways to prevent a robbery like this one. "If you've got an expensive car stereo, don't write it across your back window. A lot of these people are looking for upper scale stereo systems" said Sgt. Woodard.
Sergeant Woodard also suggests the following tips:
- When at home, park in your driveway and not on the street
- Install a motion light on your porch or driveway to deter thieves
- Put important items like purses in the trunk
- When in a public place, park close to the door or in a well-lit area
