A 79 year-old man died Friday night, less than 24 hours after police say he was beaten and shot inside his Lubbock home.
According to police, Dorman Shaw was shot around 9:30 Thursday night. When police arrived, they saw 29 year-old Barry Thoms fleeing from the scene.
Corporal Stan Bloodworth chased Thoms for half a block, that's when he allegedly turned around and pointed a gun at the officer.
Bloodworth then fired approximately six rounds, hitting Thoms two to four times in the upper body. He was upgraded to serious condition at University Medical Center Saturday evening.
A warrant was issued Friday afternoon for Thoms' arrest on a charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer. Police believe Shaw and Thoms knew each other.
