No criminal charges filed after judge's death

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

No criminal charges will be filed in the death of County Court at Law Judge Larry "Rusty" Ladd, according to Lubbock police.

Judge Ladd died Sept. 30 after a 17-year-old driver in a Jeep SUV collided with his motorcycle.

The accident occurred at 17th & Bangor around 8:15 a.m. Lubbock police report that a teenage driver in a Jeep SUV failed to stop at a yield sign.

Sgt. John Hayes says the driver was cited with a fail to yield the right of way ticket.

Ladd was laid to rest on Oct. 3. Ladd is survived by his wife, daughter and three sons.

An appointed retired judge has taken over Ladd's position until the Lubbock County Commissioners appoint a replacement, according to Precinct 1 County Commissioner Bill McCay.

The application deadline to apply for the position is Nov. 2. Following the deadline, the interview process will begin. Commissioners hope to fill the position at their next meeting Nov. 14.
