From the Texas Tech Athletics Department:
SAN ANGELO, Texas – Mary Bokenkamp scored 14 points to lead four Lady Raiders in double figures as Texas Tech knocked off Angelo State, 81-45 on Wednesday night at the Junell Center.
It was the first exhibition game on the road for Tech, who also beat Angelo State 92-46 in last year's exhibition game in Lubbock.
"I thought we had some great effort and attitude on the court tonight," Tech head coach Kristy Curry said. "We played a solid game in front of a great road crowd of Angelo State fans. This is what we needed to experience by playing this game."
Bokenkamp was nearly perfect from the floor in the first half, hitting her first four 3-pointers as Tech opened up with a 22-6 lead midway through the opening period following an 11-0 run after both teams exchanged baskets early on.
Christine Hyde and Casey Morris each scored 11 points and Chynna Brown added 10.
Morris was effective on both ends of the court, leading Tech with six of the team's 22 steals. The Lady Raiders forced 30 turnovers while the Belles shot just 33.3 percent from the field.
Every Lady Raider had a chance to enter the game tonight, including freshman Amber Battle, who got her first game experience at the college level. Battle played 11 minutes and scored four points on two quick baskets inside the lane.
"That was the most important part about playing here tonight was getting everyone in the game to get some minutes," Curry said. "This was a great opportunity for Amber and everyone else to get some minutes before we open the season next week."
Tech will play one more exhibition game in Lubbock on Sunday at United Spirit Arena against Metro State, who is ranked No. 12 in the Division II Bulletin Top-25 preseason poll.
