Jobs are being cut at the Excel Plant in Plainview. On Friday, Cargill Incorporated announced layoffs at five of its Excel subsidiary plants as a result of the mad cow case in Washington State.
Cargill says between 100 and 150 employees at each plant will be cut. The Plainview plant employs about 2,000 people. Employees at Excel's Friona plant are also being laid off.
Excel is a leading processor of fresh beef, pork and fully prepared meats sold around the world.
