Lubbock police investigating 'new scam artist' in town

Provided by Lubbock Police Department

Lubbock police have issued a warning about a man with a history of fraud who they say is attempting to con people at local hotels and churches.

Police say he asked one congregation for money so he could fly to Syria where his parents had recently been killed. One member of the congregation gave him money, but became suspicious when he learned that the man had an extensive history of fraud across several states. This person is apparently operating in Lubbock at this time and the LPD is investigating these recent reports.

Lubbock police warn the public to always be wary of people with a "hard luck story" asking for money as this type of scam artist will often prey on the sympathy and good intentions of a person in order to scam them out of their money.  Anyone who is approached by a subject asking for money or presenting a "deal" that sounds suspicious is encouraged to contact the police before parting with their money.

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of this scam is asked to contact the LPD to make a report.  775-2817
