Transportation Commissioner Robert Nichols says Texas needs more money to provide drivers with good roads.
The commissioner addressed the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee Monday about issues facing the commission in 2004. Nichols focused in on the reauthorization of the Federal Transportation Bill. The commission would like Texas to receive 95 cents instead of 85 cents for every tax dollar sent to Washington.
"In Texas, the population in the last thirty years has increased 90% but actual number of miles traveled and vehicles has increased 300% but highway lanes that have been added is only 7%," said Robert Nichols, TxDOT Commissioner.
If the Federal Transportation Bill was changed, it would add $250 million for roads and bridges in Texas.
