Early signing period is the timeframe high school basketball(among several other sports) players can make their dream of playing at the college level official. Wednesday, Kellyn Schneider(Monterey) and Lauren Dudding(Coronado) signed off on that dream.
"It's a big relief to sign, I've always wanted to go to Tech," said Schneider, Monterey's six-foot-five center. "I never really considered anywhere else, so I just wanted to get [signing] over with."
One common thread between the two 5-A standouts is their connection to their new basketball family with actual family. Schneider already has older sister, Haley, on the Lady Raider team at Tech, while Dudding will be joining the University of Missour-Kansas City with her cousin, Kelsey Barnwell.
"Most girls don't get the opportunity to go play Division 1 basketball with their cousin, and a former teammate of mine," said Dudding.
"I've always wanted to play with Haley," the younger Schneider said of her sister. "She really likes her team, so I'm really excited to meet my new teammates."
Also signing a national letter of intent, Brittany Bednarz(Cooper) signed to play with West Texas A&M. Bednarz was a 4-year starter and 3-time all-district player for the Lady Pirates.
Frenship basketball standout Brooke Barker signed with John Brown University.
Cooper softball players Lauren Heinrich and Hannah Limmer signed with West Texas A&M as well.
