Saturday morning, hundreds of area runners laced up their sneakers and pounded the pavement for a good cause. More than 200 people attended the First Annual Women Run Lubbock Event at Mackenzie Park.
The event supported two causes specifically geared toward women: Women's Protective Services and the YWCA of Lubbock. In addition to the race, participants were also treated to chocolate, massages and facials.
"It's just to get women out and running together for a good cause," event director Emily Luckett said.
The event was produced by an organization called "Run Lubbock" which encourages the empowerment of women.
