One injured in grain truck collision

ABERNATHY, TX (KCBD) -

A Shallowater woman was in serious condition Monday night after a pickup collided with a grain truck on FM 597.

The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. - one mile west of Abernathy.

DPS Corporal John Gonzalez says the 2010 Ford pickup hit the rear of the grain truck as both vehicles were traveling east.

DPS is investigating whether the grain truck had lights on and if they were working properly.

The driver of the pickup, Derl McGuire, 78, was not injured.

A passenger in the pickup, Mary Francis McGuire, 74, is in critical condition at University Medical Center ICU.

The driver of the grain truck, Ed Thortonberry, 24, of Lockney was not hurt.

Gonzalez says the maximum speed of grain trucks is 35-40 miles per hour.
