Lubbock terror suspect's trial delayed until May

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The trial date for Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari has been put off from Jan. 9 to May 14.

Aldawsari faces a single charge of Attempted Use of a Weapon of Mass Destruction in Lubbock federal court. He's accused of obtaining the material needed for bomb in his Central Lubbock apartment prior to his arrest in February. Recently the judge ruled that Aldawsari should be examined for mental health issues.

Tuesday's ruling says "the ends of justice" are served by a delay.

The judge also ruled a delay is justified, "... because the nature of the case, the quantity of evidence in this case, and the existence of novel questions of fact and law."

Aldawsari is a citizen of Saudi Arabia. He was in Lubbock as a college student. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.
