Americans are increasingly taking psychiatric drugs. A new report from pharmacy-benefit manager "Medco Health Solutions" finds one in five adults now takes an anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medication. Usage of such drugs among adults surged 22-percent between 2001 and 2010. The number of adults between the ages of 20 and 44 taking medication to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder tripled since 2001, especially in women. The Medco analysis of more than 2-million pharmacy claims shows a decrease in antidepressant use in children and the elderly.
