Red Raiders hang on late to hold off North Texas

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Texas Tech Red Raiders hit some big free throws down the stretch to finish off the Mean Green from North Texas 69-64, improving their record for the season to 2-0.

North Texas battled the 2nd half and had the game within 1 point with just over a minute left to play, but the Red Raiders were able to come up with a big stop and hit their free throws.

Senior big man Robert Lewandowski led the Red Raiders with 17 points. He was one of three Tech players in double figures. Junior guard Ty Nurse scored 15 points and Freshman Toddrick Gotcher added 12. Sophomore Jaye Crockett made his season debut contributing 9 points, 9 boards, and 3 assists. North Texas was led by guard Chris Jones, who scored a game high 31 points.

The Red Raiders return to action Sunday afternoon when they host Stephen F. Austin at the United Spirit Arena at 2 p.m.
