A 29-year-old Levelland man is now charged with capital murder in Lubbock's first shooting death of the year.
Barry Thoms is accused of killing 79-year-old Dorman Shaw on January 1st while allegedly robbing him. Police say Thoms shot Shaw several times in Shaw's home on 56th street.
Officers found Thoms a couple blocks away and, after a brief chase, he reportedly raised his gun toward police. That's when officers shot him.
Thoms was arraigned today in his hospital bed at UMC, where he remains in critical condition.
