LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Two men were arrested for forgery in Lubbock on Monday in separate but related incidents, police say.

Officers responded to Market Street, 4205 98th, in reference to a forgery suspect in custody. Investigators say William Ellis, 29, attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill and had several other fake bills on his person. Shawn Gifford, 24, passed a counterfeit $50 bill at Buffalo Wild Wings, 8212 University, around the same time.

A search was conducted of Ellis's residence, police say, and materials used in the counterfeiting process were located as well as several more fake bills. Both subjects were arrested and charged with felony counts of forgery in addition to other unrelated charges.

Two more subjects were identified and released pending charges.

Last week, a counterfeit bill was found at a Lubbock Dairy Queen and more than 40 counterfeit bills have been reported in Amarillo in the past month. Police are investigating to see if all the incidents are related.
