Trejo widow sues Depot District bar for his death

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The widow of Jose Trejo sued a Depot District business late Monday afternoon.

Jennifer Trejo claims that The Library, 1701 Texas Avenue, served her husband alcohol even after he was intoxicated back in July.  The lawsuit claims that the Trejo's were then involved in a motorcycle crash that led to Mr. Trejo's death.

"The collision was caused by Jose's highly intoxicated state that rendered him unable to control his rate of speed or properly maneuver his vehicle."

Jennifer Trejo was also injured in the crash but she recovered.

The lawsuit says The Library is guilty of "gross negligence, malice, and callous disregard" for serving alcohol to Jose Trejo even after he was obviously intoxicated.

The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount of money. A manager for the business was not available for comment early Tuesday evening.
