A Lubbock man was arrested last week and now faces allegations that he went to Clovis, New Mexico to solicit sexual activity with an underage girl.
The federal indictment does not say if Jeffrey Neal Jackson, 44, contacted an underage girl, or if he contacted an undercover agent who posed as a 15 year old girl. Either way, the indictment says Jackson went to Clovis in October, "for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct ... with a person he believed to be a fifteen-year-old girl..."
The case might ordinarily be prosecuted by the state of New Mexico, but Jackson is accused of crossing state lines. So, he faces federal charges.
Jackson remained in the Lubbock County Jail on Tuesday evening. Local federal officials on Tuesday filed a notice to let prosecutors in New Mexico know that Jackson is in custody. Jackson chose to have a hearing in New Mexico to see if he can post bond to get out of jail.
Prosecutors also seek the seizure of Jackson's iPhone and two of his laptop computers.
