The Texas Tech Health Sciences Center held a staged emergency today. The Marie Hall SimLife Center hosted a mock trauma situation that began outside, and then moved into the emergency room, the operating room, and the intensive care unit.
UMC's Director of Trauma and Burn Services, Wendi McNabb, said, "It's amazing how real it becomes. I mean the mannequin breathes, the mannequin cries, the mannequin has vital signs, the mannequin has breath sounds and heart sounds; all the things that a real patient does. And the person running the simulator is able to adjust the settings according to the care the patient gets."
The purpose of the drill was to observe how health care providers work together to treat patients. It takes teamwork to provide the best care for patients in a real life emergency.
