Lubbock needs 50 sport utility police pursuit vehicles

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The City of Lubbock wants to buy 50 new police vehicles.  Official documents show that the City wants "sport utility police pursuit vehicles with cargo area."

Specifically, the city is looking for rear-wheel drive, 4-door Chevy Tahoes.  According to gmfleet.com, the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is $32,840, so the city is looking to spend approximately $1.6 million.

The police version of a Tahoe gets 15 miles per gallon in the city, and 21 mpg on the highway for an average of 17.

About a year ago the City announced that it could no longer buy a Ford Crown Victoria for use as a police car.  So, that's why the city switched to SUV's.

Companies wishing to sell the vehicles to the City have until December 28 to submit a sealed bid.
