Hospice of Lubbock's Annual Light Up A Life Fundraiser

Help Light Up A Life with Hospice of Lubbock this holiday season.  Hospice of Lubbock's annual Light Up A Life fundraiser will kick off with a special tree-lighting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in front of Haverty's located at 7401 Quaker Avenue.

Light Up A Life is an annual event celebrated by non-profit hospices around the world to help families and friends come together to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones. The community is invited to attend the event, which will include a mayoral proclamation, short ceremony and lighting of the Hospice tree.  Hot cocoa and cookies will be served at the ceremony.

This year, a $25 handcrafted ornament featuring an angel holding a star can be purchased to support the Light Up A Life campaign.  Supporters will have the opportunity to sign a card in memory of loved ones who have passed or in honor of loved ones still living.  Each card will be displayed on the second Light Up A Life tree located at the Barnes and Noble side entrance of the South Plains Mall from Friday, Nov. 25 through Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Hospice of Lubbock hopes to raise $60,000 before Christmas this year.  Proceeds from the Lubbock event support Hospice of Lubbock's community outreach mission of providing quality and compassionate end-of-life care and bereavement services for terminally ill children, adults and their families, regardless of their ability to pay.

"The holiday season is all about spending time with loved ones and celebrating life.  At Hospice of Lubbock, we celebrate life daily by working to make each day of life the best possible for our patients and their families," Charley Wasson, director of Hospice of Lubbock, said. "Remembering our patients and special people we have known lights up our lives as well.  Our work with the terminally ill is dependent on your generosity."

There are three easy ways to Light Up A Life: online at www.hospiceoflubbock.org, by visiting the tree located at the South Plains Mall or by mailing a donation to Hospice of Lubbock.

The angel ornament can be purchased at the tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 1, at the tree located at the South Plains Mall or by calling Hospice of Lubbock at 795-2751.
