The City of Lubbock is recognizing Skip Watson for his efforts in helping the South Plains Food Bank.
Watson helped start the U-Can Share food drive back in 1983 by going to 50th and Slide with a truck and asking for food donations for the food bank.
Watson said he was proud to be recognized, but he didn't do it alone.
"It's nice to be honored, but then you feel like you need to bring all these people to stand with you. Because, you don't do anything by yourself in this world. It takes the help of thousands and thousands of people," Watson said.
Watson said the first year they started they collected about 10,000 pounds of food.
He says this year they're looking to collect 500,000 pounds.
KCBD NewsChannel 11 will be kicking off the U-Can Share food drive next week.
