Icy conditions blamed for fatal accident

Posted: Updated:

One person is dead after an early morning rollover. 69-year-old Erique Carillo-Rodriguez of Plainview was in a one-car rollover accident south of Hale Center on I-27.

Officers say that he was traveling north on I-27 when he lost control of his Dodge Ram truck while driving on an icy overpass. Weather conditions caused him to lose control of his vehicle, rolling over several times. He was ejected from his vehicle.

Enrique Carillo-Rodriguez was transported to Covenant Hospital in Plainview where he passed away shortly before 6 a.m.

As always, DPS would like to remind all motorist to drive extra careful with possible icy roads. Corporal John Gonzalez says,  Driving slower in inclement road conditions offers the driver more control of the vehicle if they do lose control. Be especially care on overpasses, curves, and low lying areas, as these areas are the first to be iced over and impacted quicker."
