LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Darren Wold, 43, convicted for his part in a murder-for-hire, will have his sentencing date on December 20th.  Officials say Wold hatched a plan to kill his estranged girlfriend while living in Lubbock.  In 2009, Kimberly Smith was found dead in her home in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

Prosecutors told a jury that Wold turned to a friend, Jack Johnson of Mexico, to find a hit man to kill Smith.  Wold was arrested in Lubbock and extradited to Wisconsin.  Johnson was sentenced to life in prison last week.

Wold also appeared in court last week but a judge removed the media and the public for a secret hearing, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.  Wold's attorney requested the hearing be closed.

The reasons for the secret hearing are not totally clear but the Sentinel Journal says, Wold, "had been refusing to eat or interact with others since Nov. 3 when a jury found him guilty..."  The Journal Sentinel also says the judge ordered jailers to force Wold to eat and take medication against his will if necessary until his sentencing date.
