Abernathy Banker Pleads Guilty To False Statement

An Abernathy Banker faces jail time for allegedly filing false statements with the FDIC. Jerry Givens was President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of First State Bank in Abernathy.

According to court documents, in April of 2000, Givens filed a "report of condition" on behalf of the bank that contained false statements. Friday in Lubbock Federal Court, he pleaded guilty to one count of false statement to a financial institution.

Givens has agreed to pay more than $300,000 in restitution but still faces five years in prison.
