The mood was mixed on Sunday at 4 Bar K, where dozens gathered to show their support for the Joiner Family at a Bar-B-Q benefit. Remember, the Joiners have two boys, and both were recently diagnosed with the same fatal disease.
Family and friends organized the bar-b-q fundraiser to help with the Joiners medical expenses since they were sent to Duke Medical Center, so that both boys could undergo stem cell transplants. So, why the mixed mood?
This weekend came the disturbing news that Trevor Joiner, the 2nd grader at Cooper Elementary, has had a major setback. Although his transplant seemed successful at first, he is not responding as he should now, and will have to undergo chemotherapy again, to prepare him for a second stem cell transplant. So now, the family will need to stay at Duke for a much longer period of time.
