When you hear the name of the town, Tulia, the infamous drug bust of 1999 might come to mind. Well, that story is now going to be told on the big screen and Oscar winning actress Halle Berry has signed on to play a lawyer in the film.
The drug bust involves the arrest of 10% of the Tulia's black population. No drugs or money were found after investigations, which led Civil Rights groups to accuse the town of racial profiling. In the aftermath, the undercover agent who led the bust was indicted for perjury. And, most of the 46 people arrested were pardoned by Texas Governor Rick Perry last year.
