Last week TCEQ Commissioners approved a $5,500 fine against a Lubbock business for having more than a quarter million tires stored on the ground without the proper permits.
Lubbock Industries Inc at 602 Erskine agreed to pay a fine without admitting to any wrongdoing. The Texas Commission On Environmental Quality does not ban the storage of so many tires out in the open. However a permit is required if there are more than 500 tires on the ground.
The attorney for Lubbock Industries, Donald Curry, says that his client rented the property out to a tenant who is now nowhere to be found. Even though Lubbock Industries did not put the tires there, the business did agree to clean up the mess and is paying someone to get it done.
There are no houses nearby, but instead other businesses that might be thought of as industrial in nature.
