Odessa man killed in oil rig accident

LYNN COUNTY, TX (KCBD) -

A deadly oil rig accident in Lynn County has claimed the life an Odessa man and injured two others.

Francis Howard Pratt, 30, of Odessa was pronounced dead at the scene. Jerry Lee Mayfield, 33, of Odessa is in stable condition at Covenant hospital. Troy Lee Mutter, 49, of Roswell New Mexico suffered minor injuries.

The Lynn County Sheriff's office tells us the accident happened about 8 miles east of O'Donnell early Friday morning near FM 2053 and CR BB.

Investigators tell us the workers working on a pipe when some of the safety lines busted. Pressure was released and struck Pratt.

The sheriff's office says the rig was run by Breck Operating out of Andrews. According to a press release, the workers were from Oryan Drilling out of Odessa.

Authorities tell us OSHA is investigating, but the sheriff's office is calling the incident an accident.
